After what seems like months of preparation, the day is drawing closer when I set off on a delivery trip from the Gold Coast in Queensland to Tahiti, French Polynesia. The boat is a 43' trimaran that the American owners bought in Townsville 2 years ago and haven't seen since because of the COVID pandemic. That's where I come in, getting it to Tahiti where they can fly in and take delivery of the boat.
Under normal circumstances, I'd take some crew but these aren't normal times. With having to get permission to actually leave the country, the hoops you have to jump through to enter Tahiti and the cost of the airfares back to Australia, it was just much easier to do the trip on my own. Solo sailing is not uncommon!
I've been on the boat for the past 10 days just getting it ready to the point I'm satisfied it's in great shape to sail half way across the Pacific.
